Cloud Eye 2014

"Cloud Eye" is an 60" diameter installation, that floats 12-feet-high.  Made up of over 1,000 hand-drawn eyes on paper in varying shades of blue pastel, it is singular.  Aesthetically, the piece is both alluring and discomforting to the viewer.  This reaction is solicited due to scale, multiplicity, and the directed gaze of the eye.  Anxiety is heightened, yet subdued by the pleasing colors and flow of familiar textures.  It is hard to deny the beauty in the weirdness.  The high placement above a security camera invites the audience to interact and become a character in this setting.  The natural light flooding through windows illuminates the piece in a sacred way.  The overall ambivalence of the being's intention leaves room for interpretation.

Is it a benign onlooker or representative of a more malevolent watcher? I believe each person has a unique answer.
